Mixed Reaction to Bergdahl’s Recovery by Service Members who Consider Him a Deserter from the Washington Post
"The news was hailed by President Obama on Saturday as a sign of Washington’s “ironclad commitment to bring our prisoners of war home.” But the reaction from current and former U.S. service members was decidedly more mixed."
On the domestic political front, one thing is clear: this was a no-win scenario for the Obama administration. If they leave this guy behind, the right will hammer Obama for "leaving one of our brave heroes behind." If he gets him out, as we now see, Obama is "trading terrorists for a deserter"!! Pick your poison. But as some of the other postings here reveal, there were many compelling reasons to cut this deal!
