"The new President's decision was just the latest in a series of steps he has taken that move him decidedly toward the political center on issues of national security. Spanish Probe Paints Grim Picture of Gitmo Abuse from Raw Story

"An ongoing Spanish investigation is painting a devastating picture of the brutality exercised by the US military over detainees at Guantanamo and elsewhere."

It's fascinating to see the dynamic between the US's pursuit of the detainee abuses and the Europeans via the Spanish court.  It seems like every time US authorities flag in their investigations, the Spanish court kicks their own efforts up a notch.  When the US gets more vigorous, the Spanish court seems to back off.

"A Senate panel appeared to lay the groundwork on Wednesday for a possible prosecution of former Bush administration officials for the torture and abuse of detainees in the “war on terror,” despite strong opposition from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)."

How to Fix a Party from the Economist [of London]

"Here is a modest suggestion for the Republicans: why not learn from the Democratic Party? The Democrats have had much more experience of defeat than the Republicans."
